Installation FAQs
How do I dispose of a used cartridge?
Cut open the used cartridge and mix its activated carbon and zeolite media into soil at about one part media to 10–20 parts soil. The installation instructions also list disposal in the garbage.
Will it fit my covered litter box?
For a covered, flat-top, vented litter box, remove any existing filter pad and clean the top before attaching the purifier centered over the vents with the supplied hook-and-loop pads. Some uncovered vents or gaps are OK: the fan is designed to pull in air from the litter-box area. Allow 24 hours for the adhesive to reach maximum strength.
How do I mount it above an open litter tray?
Use the wall-mount bracket. For a sheetrock wall, use the supplied screws and anchors and set the bracket level. If drilling is not an option, a floor-standing wire shelf about 18 inches above the litter box is an alternative.
How is it powered, and should I leave it on?
Plug it in and leave it on whenever there may be waste in the litter box. It draws about 3 watts, costing about $4 per year at $0.12 per kilowatt-hour. It can also run from a 12V DC supply rated for at least 0.5 amps.
What are the dimensions and clearance requirements?
Both Classic and Onyx measure 9-3/8 inches × 9-3/8 inches × 4-1/4 inches tall. Leave at least 1.5 inches of open space above the purifier for airflow.
How long does a filter cartridge last?
Cartridges are designed to last 4–7 months, depending on use. Let your nose be your guide; a visitor may notice returning odors more readily. Every month or two, remove the cartridge and gently vacuum the prefilter pad to maintain airflow. Before first use, remove the cartridge’s airtight wrapping and install it with the prefilter pad facing down.
