The deep dive:
The Purrified Air litter box air filter employs five-stage air filtration, using a combination cutting-edge and tried-and-true technologies.
Stage one: a filter pad blocks dust from kicked-up litter from clogging later media stages and from escaping the litter box. Stage two: The filter pad is treated with a natural chemical called catechin. It is derived from green tea and is effective against microorganisms.
Fun fact: You don't get green tea in a sushi restaurant just because it tastes good. Catechin, a natural chemical in green tea, is also known to kill microorganisms like bacteria which can be on raw seafood, preventing illness.
Catechin is also effective in removing odor-causing and illness-causing microorganisms in the air. When weaponized by air filtration systems, catechin becomes an important phase of the Purrified Air Five Phase filtration system. My setup:
Large catbox, with a lid but no flap door because he can't fit (he's a tall cat). I have clay litter with crystals mixed in manually (due to excessive urine). The litter box is in a bathroom with the bathroom door slightly adjar. The filter is attached to the litter box top and it's running on full blast.
My cat:
16 years old male (80 years old in human years) with health issues due to kidney disease. I do labs on him once every 3 months or so now that he is sick. I just did a fecal sample test after buying the filter because the poo smelled SO bad and is what promoted me to buy it (all checked out fine from sample). The cat takes 5 medications for his stomach, intestines, kidneys and resulting nausea issue. I give him lower protein food with higher fiber and I have THREE drinking fountains for him all over the house. He has to drink once and hour and pees once every other hour on average.
I know this sounds excessive but he has been my constant companion for so long and the older he gets the more careful I have to be with his health to keep him in good shape.
His meds:
1. Antacid (like most of us)
2. Steroids (intestine inflammation)
3. Pro Biotic (paste)
4. Anti nausea (kidney issues)
5. Appetite stimulant (kidney issues)
Now for the filter:
Seems to work, knocked out like 99.9% of the poo smell which was BRUTAL. I mean GAG you brutal.
However my cat has those health issues and the concentrated pee smell seems to still make is way into the next room with the door open. My wife had magic powers to smell anything though. Me not so much.
Granted my cat is not the norm but it's worth it just to keep the poo smell from turning deadly. I think if this works for my cat or should be absolutely not problem for the average cat (small, young and very healthy).
Last word:
The packs you put in the filter are impressive. I was dubious thinking it was going to be mesh or something but the reviews were good so I took a chance. The filter packet is huge and I can see why it works so well. I feel like I am getting my money's worth for sure.
The unit operates perfectly and well constructed of very good material. Unfortunately, the fan is very loud -even though I keep it on the lowest level. The fan on the 1st model made NO sound!

We have a 17-year-old cat who is so eaten up with arthritis that he can no longer get through the cat door to the garage to use the litter box. We moved the box to the master bedroom (he likes to sleep with us) and all summer had dual fans "exhausting" the air from the room. Now that winter has arrived, we have had to shut the window and YOWZA!!! The odor was horrifying. Understand, with the arthritis, he also finds it difficult to bury his excrement.
It was a shot in the dark, but I read a good review of this air purifier and I'm here to testify that it's true. This thing works amazingly well. I built a little stand to hold it about six inches from the carpet and placed it next to the entry of the litter-box cave. We do try to stay on top of covering the droppings in the box when we see them. Between that and this air purifier, if you didn't see it, you would not know there was a litter box in the room.
